OPEN LETTER FOR MR. PRESIDENT OBAMA - FROM RIO 2009

Rio de Janeiro is usually a happy place, despite its poverty and violence. But today happiness inside every habitant’s heart is incredible. Since it was elected host city for the Olympic Games 2016, we are like children playing in the garden.

It is special for us. We sorry, Mr. President Obama. Chicago is a cool city. But Rio is better!, according to International Olympic Committee. We invite you for visiting us on 2016. Perhaps you aren’t supposed to be USA president more, but Brazilians will be glad to meet you.

“Yes We Créu” (“we’ve got it”). The expression was created and published around the planet. Like other Brazilian expressions, there’s a sexual connotation behind it (ooops, sorry again, Mr. President Obama. We don’t have any intention to mock you). This is our behavior. We aren’t north Americans. We are proudly latin Americans.

We really know it’s our chance to show the world what Brazil is able to win. During our recent past History, we’ve lost too much. As a Harvard graduated, you know it.

A friend of mine, a “carioca” journalist (“carioca” is a person who was born in Rio city) has run to avenue and yelled: “It is not enough to be Brazilian. It must be carioca”. Do you really understand how proud was she?

Sorry, Chicago, Madrid and Tokyo. But this is our day! And we are incredibly happy.
